   If you need lots of eggs, Layer chickens are the thing for you!

   These are the chickens that lay the most out of all the chicken breeds listed on this site. They normally have a light frame and will most likely not be as meaty as others (See MEAT BIRDS).

   They normally have an inferior egg quality, though, because they produce so many eggs. They are also more prone to have thin-shelled eggs because they have to produce more shells for all the eggs that they lay. To avoid thin-shelled eggs, make sure to give your layer oyster shell, a rich source of calcium.
