Rhode Island Red

 

   Like many breeds, the Rhode Island Red takes its name from its place of origin.  In 1954, the Rhode Island state legislature named the Rhode Island Red the state bird, making it of only two domesticated birds ever to receive such a distinction.

TEMPERAMENT: extremely docile with humans, but bosses fellow chickens around
